PhoneGap and Titanium allow you build native iPhone Apps based on HTML and JavaScript.
Has anyone gained experience with both? What are the differences?
Adobe recently announced that PhoneGap is shutting down.
Flutter is the best alternative to PhoneGap. Flutter is an open-source UI development kit developed by Google. However, it is renowned as a cross-platform framework that allows building attractive natively compiled apps for mobile, web, desktop, and embedded devices with a single codebase.
PhoneGap Build, the cloud build service for hybrid Cordova and Ionic apps, will be discontinued later this year. The team at PhoneGap has been neglecting this service for a long time, so it's not much of a surprise.
Not Suitable for Gaming Apps PhoneGap is a platform that is designed to build simple applications. It failed to deliver gaming apps and isn't appropriate to develop such apps because they freeze and have drop issues when any notification comes from their apps.
There is a pretty lengthy discussion about PhoneGap VS Titanium (and Corona) on StackOverflow already that might be useful.
One of the big differences is that PhoneGap is MIT licensed and Titanium is (just recently changed) Apache licensed.
This article is a good summary of the practical and philosophical differences. Note its from an Appcelerator evangelist, but I still think its pretty impartial. In fact I think he shares Titanium more warts that I probably would :).
