Can somebody tell me how to display a form in the area marked red, or at least how this area can be reached from my application. Any help appreciated.

Turn on, turn off, or move the Reading Pane To turn off the Reading Pane: On the View tab, in the Layout group, select Reading Pane, and then select Off. To turn on or move the Reading Pane: On the View tab, in the Layout group, select Reading Pane, and then select Right or Bottom.
Navigation Pane - navigate through your folders. Peek Pane - hover over the Calendar, People and Tasks icons for a quick view of these items. Email Reading Pane - read and reply to emails. Reading Views and Zoom Control - switch between Normal and Reading View and zoom in or out.
An Outlook View Control will let you takeover the currently active view pane.
