What is the power output from a computer USB port? Most computer USB ports supply 5V of electricity with a maximum current of 0.5A. This amount of current is standard across the majority of computers and means the overall power output will be 2.5 Watts at best.
As a rule, most computers' USB 2.0 ports provide 0.5 amps (the minimum power for the USB standard). USB 3.0 ports provide 0.9 amps. Wall chargers are all over the map.
USB 3.1 Type-C cables offer a transfer rate of 10Gbps, which is double the transfer speed of USB 3.0 (5 Gbps). Additionally, these cables will offer 20 volts and 5 amps of power, compared with the 5 volts and 1.8 amps of its predecessor.
Also, with a USB 3.0, it can provide up to 900mA or 0.9A, which translates into 4.5 watts. These power output specifications are a rating based on the 5 volts from each standard output. However, the USB 3.0 dedicated charging and charging downstream ports provide up to 1,500 mA or 1.5A, which translates into 7.5 watts.
The Output voltage from an USB port is 5v, and it can't be changed, isn't it?!
But what is the maximum amperage that I can drain from a smartphone? It depends on the battery, hardware or is limited by the OS? There is difference between Android/iPhone/otherOS phones? Can I control the output amperage with an App? And if the phone is rooted?
Important example what is the maximum amount of current that can provide Iphone 6 from USB?
