I want to buy a Macbook Air 2013 for Android and J2EE development, but the Macbook Air specs are an i5 processor, 4GB ram, and a 128GB SSD. So my question is: will this be good enough for development?

Can I use MacBook for Android development?

MacBook Air with M1 would be enough for the majority of mobile developers. However, I'd recommend buying the one with 16 GB of RAM. That way, you'd be able to build apps for both Android and iOS as well as try out cross-platform development (Kotlin Multiplatform, Flutter).

Is MacBook Air 8GB enough for Android development?

Yes, it is good for Android development.

Can I use android studio in MacBook Air?

If you have a Macbook Air with 8GB RAM, it won't be a big problem but it might slow you down when you need to run another software like photoshop, second IDE etc. beside Android Studio but 8GB is just enough for Android Studio and one emulator.

I suggest you buy 8GB of RAM because you may need to run an emulator. Furthermore, Android Studio also needs a lot of RAM too. Usually, while I code, I also open a web browser in order to search Android Development materials. So I recommend at least 8GB of RAM or 32 GB for fast working and future support

I have a MacBook Air 2012 with 4GB of Ram. It worked well to run Eclipse and Android Studio. It's enough for development, and 8GB is better :)
