The play() method starts playing the current audio. Tip: This method is often used together with the pause() method. Tip: Use the controls property to display audio controls (like play, pause, seeking, volume, etc, attached on the audio).
you can play sound by onclick event... insert a button on html. write a function and call it at your button as onclick event. Make sure to give a valid filename.

Now that the Web Audio API is here and gaining browser support, that could be a more robust option.
Zounds is a primitive wrapper around that API for playing simple one-shot sounds with a minimum of boilerplate at the point of use.
