I believe that Mule Studio became Anypoint Studio. Is there a version of Anypoint Studio that is open source (free)? Specifically, I'm referring to the GUI workflow designer tool.
If you have on-prem/customer hosted mule runtimes (e.g. you installed mule runtime on a server(s) somewhere, then yes, you'll need to run a command to get things setup for the licence.. but if you're purely cloudhub - then you won't have this).
MuleSoft offers some products as open source projects, under the CPAL license, while others are commercial products offered on a subscription basis for production deployments. Some of these commercial products are free for use in development and pre-production.

Step 1 − First, click on the link https://www.mulesoft.com/lp/dl/studio and choose the Windows operating system from top-down list to download the studio. Step 2 − Now, extract it into the 'C:\' root folder. Step 3 − Open the extracted Anypoint Studio. Step 4 − For accepting the default workspace, click OK.
There is an answer to my question (thanks @Ryan), but it comes with a caveat. Yes, Anypoint Studio is open source but, by default, comes with the Enterprise runtime. One can download the Community Edition (CE) and use Anypoint Studio with that.
The caveat, however, is after taking time to configure a flow with the included DataMapper component, I received the following error when attempting to run my flow with the community edition. Basically, to execute a flow with DataMapper, you'll need the Enterprise version. DataMapper does not execute with the CE.
