I often use Bootstrap to design my UI. It provides an easy and powerful way to keep from reimplementing UI components such as navbars and modals.
I recently met another developer who said that he does not use Bootstrap for production sites. He says the creating your own UI is better. I also read a book saying that bootstrap is good for prototyping UI. Is is considered a bad practice to use these predefined UI's when developing sites??
Again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using Bootstrap, but you'd be crippling yourself by not knowing how to do this stuff without it. Here's a vote for Material CSS Framework. Using Bootstrap is not an excuse to not learn CSS. I highly recommend you continue learning CSS while also using BS.
It depend on the clients. If the clients searching someone who has ability to use Bootstrap as the foundations then it's advantage for you to use Bootstrap on your portfolios. If the client just want the website project to be done, using framework you familiar with will cut the development cost and time.
Bootstrap is widely used by professional web developers creating apps and sites for companies in many sectors. According to Similartech, more than half a million websites in the US were built using Bootstrap .
It entirely depends on your unique UX needs. I like bootstrap for rapid prototyping proofs of concept. But I agree to previously mentioned, if you need a snowflake bootstrap will only hinder you workflow and overall maintenance. Use prudently.
Also, some will say that it does not make sense to reinvent the wheel. Sure, but not all UI are wheels.
