A new iPhone feature lets you switch your display to a form of "dark mode," meaning the screen appears black instead of white. The feature is an accessibility setting called "smart invert." It works well in Apple-made apps, but won't work correctly in most third-party apps.
A recent update to the Google application caused an aesthetic issue with the font and symbols turning black on the notification bar. By uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating the Google application, this should allow the white text/symbols to return to the notification bar on the home screen.
Start by opening the icon in the Icon Editor by clicking on the Edit icon button. Select the element that you want to make transparent. Then, click the colour picker and click on the little box with a red cross. Click OK.
From the apple developer website after a quick search:
Avoid transparency. An app icon should be opaque. If the icon’s boundaries are smaller than the recommended sizes—or you use transparency to create “see-through” areas—the resulting icon can appear to float on a black background, which tends to look especially unattractive on the beautiful wallpapers that users choose.

Edit: Also, check the related questions before you confirm your post - Is is possible to use transparency in an iPhone app icon?
On IOS use just square icons, if you use rounder icons you will have black margin black background.
