I'm just learning Express and am trying to determine where exactly to put my sitemap.xml file and my robots.txt file. Do they go in the /public folder? Or do they go in the complete root of my Express application?
Thanks very much,
Chris
txt, an XML sitemap is a must-have. It's not only important to make sure search engine bots can discover all of your pages, but also to help them understand the importance of your pages. You can check your sitemap has been setup correctly by running a Free SEO Audit.
If you already have a robots. txt file, you can add the rule Sitemap: https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml to your file via the file editor in the Tools section of Yoast SEO. Keep in mind that you should add the full URL to your XML sitemap.
How To Add Your XML Sitemap To Your Robots.txt File. 1 Step #1: Locate Your Sitemap URL. If your website has been developed by a third-party developer, you need to first check if they provided your site ... 2 Step #2: Locate Your Robots.txt File. 3 Step #3: Add Sitemap Location To Robots.txt File.
An XML sitemap is an XML file that contains a list of all pages on a website that you want robots to discover and access. For example, you may want search engines to access all of your blog posts, in order for them to appear in the search results.
Even if you are keen for a bot to crawl all of your site pages, you will need a default robots.txt file to direct it in a way that benefits your SEO. Where should the robots.txt file be placed? The robot.txt should always sit at the root of the website domain.
After about six months, in April 2007, they joined in support of a system to check for XML sitemaps via robots.txt, known as Sitemaps Autodiscovery. This meant that even if you did not submit the sitemap to individual search engines, it was OK. They would find the sitemap location from your site’s robots.txt file first.
They need to be publically accessible. public
seems a good spot for that. Those files work because other external services load them from your website. If they aren't accessible, they don't do anything.
Though, unless you site is very very simple, most dynamic websites generate a sitemap.xml
dynamically. Which means you register a route for it, poll your database for pages/objects that would have pages, and then generate xml based on that info.
