This question might be very easy to answer so I apologize if I missed the obvious. I'm developing a GUI application on the iPhone and want to hide the title/status bar of the iPhone which usually displays the carrier/time/battery. How can I do this from within the code given the main UIWindow and UIView?

Firefox opens the customization menu in a new tab. Move to this new Customize tab and look at the bottom. You'll see Title Bar option checked. You just need to uncheck this Title Bar option.
To completely hide it on the home screen, open up an app, such as Settings, and wait about three to four seconds. Press the home button again, and the status bar will be completely gone.
On Windows, when the Title Bar and Menu Bar are hidden, hold down the Shift key and press the Tab key. The Title bar and Menu bar will appear. On macOS, when the [Title Bar] is hidden, hold down the Shift key and press the Tab key. The Title Bar will appear.
In your Info.plist file, set UIStatusBarHidden
to true or add the following to your application delegate:
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES];
