I have a several videos in a Blender project with dimension larger than 1280x720, which is my output dimension. Instead of rescaling my videos to fit the output dimension, I would like to crop them to 1280x720 pixels, so that part of the scene is discarded. This way, the remaining region would not seem distorted.
How can I achieve this?
You can set the distance in pixels from each border of your video or image for cropping. Blender will apply something like a mask to your strip, and you can always go back to the sidebar and reset the crop area to 0. When you crop an image, Blender will stretch the contents to fill the area you are removing.
With a number of strips selected, pressing E lets you interactively extend the strips. This is similar to grabbing but is useful for extending (or shortening) time around the current frame.
In the VSE select the strip and show the properties sidebar N. There you will find a panel for Strip Input that has the crop settings.
