You can configure Android Studio to run the emulator in a tool window, and, within that, the emulator adapts to the available space. If you change the tool window's view mode to "Float" or "Window" (small settings icon in the upper right) you get a fully resizable standalone emulator window.
In the Android SDK Manager, select Tools | Manage AVDs. In the Android Virtual Device Manager, click the New button to create a new virtual device. In the Create new Android Virtual Device (AVD) dialog box, select an Android device to emulate, and enter the details describing the Android device you want to emulate.
Just press the 'window' button and the left arrow and the highlighted window will stack to the left. Press the 'window' button and the right arrow and the highlighted window will stack to the right. So you can stack eclipse on one side and emulator on the other.
On Android StudioOpen the AVD Manager. Click Edit Icon to edit the AVD. Click Show Advanced settings. Change the Internal Storage, Ram, SD Card size as necessary.
If you are using the latest version of AVD Manager, you will find a new tab labelled ** Device Definition**.
Here select new Device, and then specify your Screen Size(in) and Resolution(px). You can also specify Size, Screen Ratio and Density besides other things.
