I use Google Chrome as my default browser in Windows 10, but when I click a link in external programs (for instance Skype, Teamcity) Microsoft Edge is launched and open the link instead of Google Chrome. How can I fix it?
To stop Windows 10 from just opening whatever it decides in Microsoft Edge you will need to use a third-party application. It's free, open-source, and hosted on Github, but installing and using it is a breeze. It's called EdgeDeflector and that's exactly what it does.
ANSWER: 'Default browser' actually mean 'default browser (except for sometimes)' and it's 100% by design. It's the MICROSOFT-EDGE protocol (not the HTTP or HTTPS protocol), which will totally ignore the user's default browser selection and open the link using Edge.
To control this go into Settings > Apps > Default Apps and change the default browser to Chrome. If you don't want Edge to open your pdf files either, then go into Default Apps > Choose default by file type to set pdf files to Chrome or your reader.
Set your default browser:
in the Search bar type Default programs, and then tap or click Default Programs.
Tap or click Set your default programs.
Select Chrome from the list of programs.
Tap or click "Set this program as default", and then tap or click OK.
OR Tap or click "Choose defaults for this program" to choose other defaults
Go to Control Panel -> Default Programs -> Set your default programs.
Select Project Spartan/Google Chrome and check out the "Choose defaults for this program".
