I recently upgraded to Android SDK 2.1 and 2.2 but the AVD always displays with Chinese and Japanese characters active. I can go to Settings to uncheck these options but it's becoming a pain. How can I set the Language & Keyboard defaults to avoid this hassle?

In the Regional and Language dialog box, on the Keyboards and Languages tab, click Change keyboards. In the Text Services and Input Languages dialog box, under Default input language, click the language that you want to use as the default language.
The default language is the language in which your site initially displays. By default, it's set to English (US), and it serves as the starting point when you add new languages.
CommonsWare's comment is the answer: You only need to make that change once per AVD, or until you wipe the user settings.
