Ok, so this may seem like a stupid question but I'm fighting DBeaver and so far it's winning and Google is refusing to pick a side.
I've worked out how to explore the database, view the structure of tables, I can even view the data of a table and filter it.
But if I just want to run an arbitrary SQL statement how do I do that?
To execute the whole script, press Alt+X or click Execute -> Execute SQL Script on the context menu or SQL Editor -> Execute SQL Script on the main menu or in the main toolbar. This executes all queries in the current editor (or selected queries) as a script.
ARBITRARY chooses one value out of a set of values. ARBITRARY is useful for silencing warnings about values neither grouped by or aggregated over. Parameter.
Re: oracle pl/sql JDBC driver provides ability to execute PL/SQL, invoke procedures, etc but it is not supported by current version of DBeaver. PL/SQL requires quite specific (non-standard) SQL statements handling.
DBeaver is a SQL client software application and a database administration tool. For relational databases it uses the JDBC application programming interface (API) to interact with databases via a JDBC driver. For other databases (NoSQL) it uses proprietary database drivers.
And 30 seconds after posting I found the answer. There is an SQL Editor menu appeared at the top of the screen (not in the Database Navigator). Selecting SQL Editor from that brings up a query window I can type SQL into.
