Add a watermark Protect your digital images by putting a textual or semi-transparent watermark on the image itself. Semi-transparent watermarks could be anything, from your site's logo to your signature or website address are more effective than textual ones as they're much harder to remove.
Use watermarks According to photographer Craig Mitchelldyer, “A watermark will help with identifying where the image came from, and could deter people from using or stealing an image without permission.” But he warns that it won't prevent an image from being stolen.
The vast majority of images on the internet are likely to be protected by copyright. The only way to be 100% sure that an image is safe to copy and use is to seek permission before you do so.
You cannot stop an image from being downloaded from your web site. If this image is visible somehow on the site it means that clients already have it. You could add watermarks to the original to claim copyright. Some other techniques might involve incorporating the image into a Flash movie which would make it harder but not impossible to retrieve.
IMHO clearly stating copyright ownership of the images somewhere on your site should be enough.
