How can I use a web api as a web service?

I've created a test ASP.Net Web Api and now I want to know how can I use it as a web service in my windows form application?

The current url is http://localhost:59682 and when I add http://localhost:59682 or http://localhost:59682/api/ or http://localhost:59682/api/products/ as web service reference I get this error: There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:59682/api/products/$metadata'. The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:59682/api/products/'. The remote server returned an unexpected response: (405) Method Not Allowed. The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.

this is my web.config:

Can an API be a Web service?

Though APIs and web services can both facilitate data transfers between applications over the internet, they are not the same, and the terms should not be used interchangeably in every case. The key distinction is that web services are a type of API: All web services are APIs, but not all APIs are web services.

What is the difference between Web API and Web service?

Difference Between Web Service vs Web API:Web service is used to communicate between two machines on a network. Web API is used as an interface between two different applications for communicating with each other. It uses HTML requests that can be compressed, but XML data cannot be compressed. Data can be compressed.

Is a Web API a Web server?

A web API is an application programming interface for either a web server or a web browser.

You cannot add a service reference to a Web Api as it is just a framework that allows you to expose functionality over HTTP (basically you call a method on a controller).

I would suggest you to install the Web API Client Libraries

have a look at the below link
