I was wondering, What's the difference between users "liking" a page and users "sharing" it. For example let's say I have a news website with lots of articles. Should i have a "Like" button on the homepage and a "Share" button on each individual article? Or maybe the opposite is true?
The only purpose for the Share button is to allow your reader to share your content with their friends in Facebook. The shared item is more visual as Facebook will decipher the link, grab the image and show a snippet of the post. The “Like” button is more like a personal endorsement of the post/article/content/site.
Depending on how many sharing icons you have in your share bars, and the button size, you assume that each one will encourage visitors to share your blog post. Almost every site you visit has social share buttons.
If you're not ready to use a fixed header or floating bar, your best bet is probably to place your social sharing buttons at the top of your content. This ensures the reader won't miss them – even if they don't reach it all the way to the bottom of the page.
They Can Help You Determine What Content Works on Each Social Media Channel. These at-a-glance sharing button stats also make it easy for you to determine the popularity of your content so you can make future content strategy decisions about what content works on which social media channels.

Why you shouldn't use the Like one anyway :
