Background:

An error occurred while installing pg (0.18.3), and Bundler cannot continue.
Make sure that `gem install pg -v '0.18.3'` succeeds before bundling.
At this point I run gem install pg -v '0.18.3'
building native extensions. This could take a while...

My gem file has the following at the bottom
# Use sqlite3 as the database for Active Record
group :development, :test do
gem 'sqlite3'
end
group :production do
gem 'rails_12factor'
gem 'pg'
end
I'm looking at the following SO question, but cannot seem to figure out the equivalent to OSX.
The pg gem requires the postgresql client libraries to bind against. This error usually means it can't find your Postgres libraries. Either you don't have them installed or you may need to pass the --with-pg-dir= to your gem install. Save this answer.
“Native extensions” are the glue that connects a Ruby gem with some other non-Ruby software component or library present on your machine. The native extensionis not the dependency. A native extension is generally a C code that interacts with a non-Ruby dependency.
Use `gem install -v` You may already be familiar with gem install , but if you add the -v flag, you can specify the version of the gem to install. Using -v you can specify an exact version or use version comparators.
Seems that you just don't have the Postgres installed. Install it using something like:
brew install postgres
(if you have the Homebrew)
And then try to compile the gem extensions again.
