Has anyone tested Android Things on the Raspberry Pi 3 model B+ yet?
When I attempt to boot the Pi 3 B+ with an Android Things image, it remains on the initial multi-colour boot screen and nothing further happens. Power is fine and same micro SD card works with Raspbian.
Both the Raspberry Pi 3 and 4 builds of Android have support for hardware-based rendering. Having support for the hardware renderer allows Android to make full use of the GPU built into the Raspberry Pi. This helps maximize performance when running things like games on your device.
To run Android on Raspberry Pi, you would need a robust Android version that is regularly updated and actively developed. There are versions in the wild out there, but the best way for running Android on Raspberry Pi is to go with a tested system.
Another thing the specs don't completely tell is that the Raspberry Pi 3B+ didn't suddenly become obsolete. It will still be supported for a while, and any project that works well with it will continue to work well.
Konstakang has created a custom image of LineageOS, an open-source version of Android, that can be installed on Raspberry Pi 3 and 4. Google Apps can then be added on the SD card to have a complete Android version running on Raspberry Pi.
Raspberry Pi 3 model B+ is not yet officially supported by Android Things in contrast to Raspberry Pi 3 model B.
