datatables select - disable few rows for selection

I have a datatable with select extension and a button to select all rows, and first cell to select/deselect specific row and the problem is that I can't do any action for few rows.

$(document).ready(function() {
    $('#example').DataTable( {
        select: {
            style: 'multi'
        }
    } );
} );

Can anybody tell me how to disable row selection for row based on cell data?

Thanks a lot.

How to prevent row selection in DataTable?

This example shows how to disable the deselection of rows by clicking on them by using the toggleable option. toggleable is true by default, meaning that clicking a selected rows will deselect it. By setting toggleable to false when a selected row is clicked it will remain selected rather than deselecting.

How do I disable clicking rows?

Use a class or something to identify the row/column that you don't want to be clicked and check if the click event comes from this element and use event. preventDefault() to cancel action.

What is stateSave in DataTables?

When DataTables' state saving option is enabled ( stateSave ) KeyTable will automatically store the last cell focused in a table and then restore that state when the page is reloaded.

How many rows can DataTables handle?

The maximum number of rows that a DataTable can store is 16,777,216.

Add class (i.e. ignoreme) on the specific rows tr elements according to your business logic. On row select event, check for that specific class and then call deselect method to ignore selection.

var table = $('#example').DataTable({
  select: {
    style: 'multi'
  }
});

table.on('select', function(e, dt, type, indexes) {
  if (type === 'row') {
    var rows = table.rows(indexes).nodes().to$();
    $.each(rows, function() {
      if ($(this).hasClass('ignoreme')) table.row($(this)).deselect();
    })
  }
});

The following is my implementation that can be used with ajax populated data and based on data identifiers. It also uses the select extension with checkboxes. Just replace the "unselectables_IDs" var by a dynamic identifiers array retrieved from your json.

HTML Code (the table body shows fake ajax data) :

<table id="datatable" class="table table-hover table-striped table-condensed nowrap" width="100%">
    <thead>
        <tr>
            <th>Identifier</th>
            <th>Model</th>
            <th>Order</th>
            <th>Select</th>
        </tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>1</td>
            <td>SSS</td>
            <td>1</td>
            <td>Un-Selectable</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>2</td>
            <td>HHH</td>
            <td>2</td>
            <td>Un-Selectable</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>3</td>
            <td>CCC</td>
            <td>3</td>
            <td></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>4</td>
            <td>CCC</td>
            <td>4</td>
            <td>Un-Selectable</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>5</td>
            <td>AAA</td>
            <td>5</td>
            <td></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>6</td>
            <td>SSS</td>
            <td>6</td>
            <td></td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
    <tfoot>
        <tr>
            <th>Identifier</th>
            <th>Model</th>
            <th>Order</th>
            <th>Select</th>
        </tr>
    </tfoot>
</table>

JS Code:

var table = $('#datatable').DataTable({
    ajax: {
        url: 'ajax_path',
        type: 'POST',
    },
    paging: false, searching: false, dom: 'rt',
    order: [],
    columnDefs: [
        { targets: [0], type: 'natural', },
        { targets: [3], className: 'select-checkbox dt-center', orderable: false, width: '70px', },
    ],
    select: {
        style: 'os',
        selector: 'td.select-checkbox:not(.not-selectable):last-child',
    },
    buttons: [],

    initComplete: function(settings, json) {
        // Select checkbox behaviors...
        var checkbox_colIdx = 3
        var identifiers_colIdx = 0;
        var table = $('#datatable').DataTable();

        var unselectables_IDs = ['1', '2', '4']; // to be replace by your json response i.e. json['unselectables_IDs']
        var row_IDs = table.column(identifiers_colIdx).data();

        $(row_IDs).each(function(index, value) {
            var row_ID = value.replace(/\D/g,'');

            if ($.inArray(row_ID, unselectables_IDs) !== -1) {
                $(table.row(index).node()).addClass('not-selectable');
                $(table.row(index).node()).children('td.select-checkbox').removeClass('select-checkbox');
            }
        });

        // Deselect unselectable rows (that can still be selected by using the shift key)...
        table.on('select', function(e, dt, type, indexes) {
            if (type === 'row') {
                var rows = table.rows(indexes).nodes();

                $.each($(rows), function() {
                    if ($(this).hasClass('not-selectable')) table.row($(this)).deselect();
                })
            }
        });
    },
});
