I'm having a problem. One of my databases on our shared network will not open for any user. It says "Unrecognized Database Format."
I've had this problem before but was still able to open the database, compact and repair, or import all of the database objects into a new database.
The problem here is -- I can't even get it to the point of opening. Is there a solution here without the use of third party software to repair the database?
Launch your Access application, doubt-click on Blank desktop database. On the window that appears, click File and then select Close. This will open a blank Access database screen. In the screen, click Database Tools and then choose Compact and Repair Database.
Open the Access application. Select the Database Tools tab. Then click the Compact and Repair Database option on the tab. A Database to Compact From window will then open from which you can select a database file to repair.
If the database file is too large, it may not open and you will encounter an error like this: “MS Access unrecognized database format”. In addition, there may not be enough free space on the hard disk.
mdb file becomes corrupt, and everybody else using Access on their local PCs get the "Unrecognized database format" error message (see picture). So I have to restart the server, erase the . ldb temporary file and then click on "Compact and restore database" option under Database Tools tab. That fixes the problem.
Open access, go to the database tools tab, select compact and repair database. You can choose the database from there.
