I'd like to convert the API call into a pandas
data frame
.
At the moment, the API is very unorganised and I'd like to incorporate pandas
to make it easier to read/edit/manipulate.
I have attempted the following:
r = requests.get('http://api.football-data.org/v1/competitions/398/teams')
x = r.json()
df = pd.read_json(x)
print df
But receive:
TypeError: Expected String or Unicode
pd.read_json
expects a string. However, r.json()
returns a dict object.
In your case, you should explore the structure of the returned JSON object by looking at x.keys()
. This will yield ['count', '_links', 'teams']
. You are probably interested in the 'teams' field.
As such, you should do the following:
r = requests.get('http://api.football-data.org/v1/competitions/398/teams')
x = r.json()
df = pd.DataFrame(x['teams'])
print df
This simple solution worked for me (the api link in question is not accessible by me)
df=pd.read_json('https://api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/ticker/?limit=10')
df.head()
