I'm looking for an option to make JIRA apply a default group of people to watcher list of some task. Is that possible to do out of the box?
Especially, whenever we do a release I'd like to create a task for it with subtasks and make sure that a predefined group of people gets notifications about them being updated/closed.
You can also use the modify workflow configuration to add default watcher, or configure settings notification to automatically send emails to specific people when new issues are created.
Go to the “Add Watchers” popup and click the number of watchers. This opens a dropdown. There you simply start typing the name of the watcher you'd like to add to this Jira issue. Select the watcher to add.
You can add multiple watchers on either the new or classic issue view - for each: Classic View: Click the number next to Watchers and add more users. New View: Select the eyeball in the upper-right corner and choose add watchers.
Please take a look at this thread where a workaround is mentioned: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-5493
