Is there a Cloud SQL proxy equivalent for AWS? We would like to be able to access RDS instances with a similar simple network setup that is provided with the Google's Cloud SQL Proxy setup.
Amazon RDS Proxy gives you additional control over data security by giving you the choice to enforce IAM authentication for database access and avoid hard coding database credentials into application code. RDS Proxy also enables you to centrally manage database credentials using AWS Secrets Manager.
The Cloud SQL Auth proxy works by having a local client running in the local environment. Your application communicates with the Cloud SQL Auth proxy with the standard database protocol used by your database. The Cloud SQL Auth proxy uses a secure tunnel to communicate with its companion process running on the server.
They key benefits of using RDS proxy are: Connection pooling and sharing: Improves application performance by reducing the number of open database connections. RDS proxy helps improve application availability during failure scenarios such as a database failover.
Amazon RDS Multi-AZOne of the features of RDS that helps to mitigate the impact of an unplanned failover is Multi-AZ for Amazon RDS. With a Multi-AZ configuration for RDS MySQL, the primary database instance exists in one Availability Zone while a synchronous standby instance resides in a second Availability Zone.
Short answer: you straight up do not need SQL proxy to have the same experience in AWS. RDS Proxy is a thing, however, it's not quite what you are looking for.
