I use Ubuntu 18.04
When I press right Alt + any diacritic letter, be it a
, c
or s
I get nothing. Same goes for using left Alt+ any letter.
My input source is set to Polish.
Why can't I type in Polish?
3 Answers. Open "System Settings" and then "Keyboard Layout". Check that there is a Polish layout in the list of keyboard layouts on the left of the window. If there isn't, click the "+" button at the bottom left and add it.
Go to “Settings” > “Change PC Settings” > “Time & Language” > “Region & Language.” Click on “Add a Language” and select “Polish.” This will add it to your list of languages. It will appear as Polski with the note “language pack available.”
Using Right-Alt to type a Polish character is simple. Press the right Alt and keep it down and then press a Polish character that is the "base", then release both. For example to type ć, press Right-Alt & c, to type ś, press Right-Alt & s etc. For Ń, press Right-Alt & Shift & n.
In GNOME Tweaks I set Keyboard & Mouse
->Additional Layout Options -> Key to choose the 3rd level
-> Right Alt
.
Now Polish diacritic characters work as expected.
