On MacOS X, you can write a Spotlight Importer so that your documents and content can be indexed and searched with Spotlight. I would like to write an iPhone app that generates content that can be searched with iPhone 3.0's new Spotlight search feature. Is this possible, or is this only available on MacOS X?
From a Home screen, swipe right to access Spotlight Search (at the top). If option isn't available, swipe down from the middle of the Home screen. From the Search field, enter the search text.
Spotlight Search searches your entire iOS device including your movie collection, music, contacts, and email, and it searches outside your iPad to bring in results from the web and the App Store. Open Spotlight Search by swiping left to right with your finger on the first page of the Home screen.
Open the Settings app. Scroll down to Siri & Search and tap it. Scroll down to see a list of all of the apps that work with the feature. Select each app you don't want to show up in search and Siri suggestions.
No, Apple does not allow third-party developers to write Spotlight plugins for the iPhone at the moment. You should file a feature request with Apple if you want this feature.
