Can a Google Tag Manager container be moved to a different account?

I'm not talking about copying (i.e. importing/exporting, which requires replacing all of the website's tracking codes) but about cases when a container was opened in the wrong account and/or when a merge is required.

Is it possible?

Can we use same GTM containers on multiple sites?

Google Tag Manager does not care about domains or subdomains If you want, you can use the same container on 5 related websites (that are hosted on different domains or subdomains). Even though (most likely) this will cause you some headaches, there are no technical limitations.

Can you have multiple GTM accounts?

There should be no issues with multiple GTM containers on the same page. Unless you have duplicate codes in the containers which are double firing pixels. You can add those containers after the opening body tag.

Is Google Tag Manager going away?

But it looks like Google Tag Manager isn't going away anytime soon: it's very popular, and the number of free and paid GTM resources is also constantly increasing. Also, if you're stuck with GTM, you can always get help in various places, e.g. GTM subreddit, GTM community on Facebook.

After wishing I could do the same and researching it, I have found the answer to be: No.

You can import and export, but you cannot modify the common GTM ID (ie. GTM-XXXXXX), and since you must import into an existing container, whatever you import is associated with that container ID.

It would be very nice to be able to move these around, but I'm sure the reason for not allowing it is that Accounts might be owned and managed by different companies or users, and moving containers between such environments could become very complicated just in terms of permission.
