I followed this tutorial for doing the autocomplete textview using google places api. I want an autocomplete textview that automatically fills itself by the place names as we start typing. The above referred tutorial is exactly what I require but it is not working for me. The autofill action is not taking place.Can someone suggest a way out?
Here is the main activity
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
AutoCompleteTextView atvPlaces;
PlacesTask placesTask;
ParserTask parserTask;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
atvPlaces = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.atv_places);
atvPlaces.setThreshold(1);
atvPlaces.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {
@Override
public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) {
placesTask = new PlacesTask();
placesTask.execute(s.toString());
}
@Override
public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count,
int after) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
@Override
public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
});
}

Go to the Google Cloud Console. Click the Select a project button, then select the same project you set up for the Maps JavaScript API and click Open. From the list of APIs on the Dashboard, look for Places API. If you see the API in the list, you're all set.
The autocomplete request is available at no charge, and the subsequent Place Details call gets charged based on regular Place Details pricing. A Place Details request generates Data SKUs (Basic, Contact, and/or Atmosphere) – depending on the fields that are specified in the request.
setThreshold
or showDropDown
to your autocompletetextview
to show the suggestion
atvPlaces.setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener(){
@Override
public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event){
atvPlaces.showDropDown();
return false;
}
});
