Pass by Value: The method parameter values are copied to another variable and then the copied object is passed, that's why it's called pass by value. Pass by Reference: An alias or reference to the actual parameter is passed to the method, that's why it's called pass by reference.
The difference between pass-by-reference and pass-by-value is that modifications made to arguments passed in by reference in the called function have effect in the calling function, whereas modifications made to arguments passed in by value in the called function can not affect the calling function.
Pass By Value: In Pass by value, function is called by directly passing the value of the variable as an argument. So any changes made inside the function does not affect the original value. In Pass by value, parameters passed as an arguments create its own copy.
When you pass an argument by reference, you pass a pointer to the value in memory. The function operates on the argument. When a function changes the value of an argument passed by reference, the original value changes. When you pass an argument by value, you pass a copy of the value in memory.
I want to set arrayCollection #2 = to arrayCollection #1 via a function in flex 3. I pass both array collections to a function and set arrayCollection #2 = arrayCollection #1. However, it seems to not be passing arrayCollection #2 by reference because after the function call, arrayCollection #2 has not been changed. My understanding is that it should be passed by reference and work, am I doing something wrong? Below is the code:
