Android studio, strange error while building kotlin: wrong code generated

I'm trying for a few days to build my android project (contains mostly kotlin)... I tried to change versions for everything, and I keep getting the same error while building!

The message I'm getting looks like this:

Kotlin Compiler:

org.jetbrains.kotlin.codegen.CompilationException: Back-end (JVM) Internal error: wrong code generated

Java Compiler:

org.jetbrains.kotlin.codegen.CompilationException: Back-end (JVM) Internal error: Couldn't transform method node:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException

I didn't do any dramatic change that could cause it to happen... I tried to rebuild, clean, delete everything, change versions for everything, but I still can't get rid of that.

How can I solve this?

Thanks!

What is unresolved reference in Android Studio?

To conclude, the unresolved reference error happens when Kotlin has no idea what the keyword you're typing in the file points to. It may be a function, a variable, or another construct of the language that you've yet to declare in the code.

Can Kotlin be used in Android Studio?

Kotlin is fully supported in Android Studio. All new releases of Android Studio ship with support for creating new projects with Kotlin files, converting Java language code to Kotlin, debugging Kotlin code, and more.

I too have faced the same error

It's mainly due to when you initialize any layout field without assigning the value to it.

  fab_add_vehicle.setOnClickListener { view ->

        if (add_note_lnr.visibility == View.VISIBLE && add_vehicle_lnr.visibility == View.VISIBLE) {

            add_note_lnr.visibility = View.GONE
            add_vehicle_lnr.visibility = View.GONE

        } else {
            add_note_lnr.visibility = View.VISIBLE
            add_vehicle_lnr.visibility = View.VISIBLE

            add_note_lnr //This the line of code which is causing the error: wrong code generated. Search in your code this kind of calling the UI fields and not using it

        }
    }

So there may be chances that you are not using the field which you just called. Please review your code from any class and remove that field

Above is my code which was causing the issue which I removed and issue disappear.

Error : e: org.jetbrains.kotlin.codegen.CompilationException: Back-end (JVM) Internal error: wrong code generated
