Android Emulator warning guest is not online - how to turn off new quick boot feature?

I've had a very awful experience using the emulator quick boot.

its suppose to allow the emulator to open under 6 seconds with state preserved. it is just constantly freezing or shows an error of "guest is not online". I'd rather just disable quickboot but i cant find an option for it. Is there any adb command then that can be used to disable quick boot ?

I"ve tried with emulators running api 23, & 26 on mac high sierra with Hax 6.2.1

What is cold boot and quick boot in Android emulator?

The first time that an AVD starts, it must perform a cold boot, just like powering on a device. If Quick Boot is enabled, all subsequent starts load from the specified snapshot, and the system is restored to the state saved in that snapshot.

What is Quick Boot Mode Android?

With Quick Boot, you can launch the Android Emulator in under 6 seconds. Quick Boot works by snapshotting an emulator session so you can reload in seconds. Quick Boot was first released with Android Studio 3.0 in the canary update channel and we are excited to release the feature as a stable update today.

Does Android emulator come with Android Studio?

as pointed out in the comments there is now a quick boot option in the AVD Manager when editing/creating a emulator. I set mine to cold boot to disable Quick boot.
