Creating a simple Spring MVC from scratch. My configuration is Spring + JPA + Postgresql . I want the configurations to be done using XML, and I am unable to set the database connection configuration with JPA. I want to configure it from scratch and want to know about every part of it.

I also know that there is a problem in the configuration, but I am not able to sort it out. I updated the data-context.xml file

Error
org.springframework.beans.factory.NoSuchBeanDefinitionException: No qualifying bean of type [com.spring.mvc.repository.ContactRepository] found for dependency: expected at least 1 bean which qualifies as autowire candidate for this dependency. Dependency annotations: {@org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.Autowired(required=true)}
The initial problem that you have configured
<jpa:repositories base-package="com.spring.mvc.domain" transaction-manager-ref="transactionManager" />
when the repositories are instead under
com.spring.mvc.repository.
So you need <jpa:repositories base-package="com.spring.mvc.repository"/>
Note that <jpa:repositories> is used to configure Spring Data JPA repositories, therefor you need to specify the package that contains the repositories, not package that contains the entities.
Also note that you can drop the part transaction-manager-ref="transactionManager" since you are only using one Transaction Manager and therefor Spring Data JPA will default to that. Check out this part of the documentation.
You'll probably also want to change the configuration of entityManagerFactory to
<bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean">
<property name="dataSource" ref="dataSource" />
<property name="packagesToScan" >
<list>
<value>com.spring.mvc.domain</value>
</list>
</property>
<property name="jpaProperties">
<props>
<!-- whatever you need here -->
</props>
</property>
</bean>
Take a look at this blog post for a complete guide on configuring Spring with JPA.
One final note, I know you said you want to explicitly configure everything in order to learn the ins and outs of Spring, but I would urge you to have a look at Spring Boot. It will take away most of the pain caused by needing to configure Spring.
